Thank you to all who attended last week’s career fair prep session. For those of you who did not have the chance to come out, find the attached PowerPoint for some valuable information! I am going to highlight some of my favorite tips that I learned during the session.
APPROACHING AN EMPLOYER – This can sometimes be the most awkward part of a career fair. Be clear, prepared, and maintain eye contact throughout.
THANK YOU NOTE – A personal thank you note (email or hand written) is very important. Providing information learned from the initial meeting will reaffirm interest in the company and position you are applying for.
NETWORK – Building relationships and expanding your network is crucial. Approximately 80% of positions are filled from the use of networking!
Multiple internship opportunities available!
The first opportunity comes from Hello West Michigan, an advocate for providing the best talent in our area. This Marketing and Web intern will manage the development of the in-bound marketing materials, ongoing improvement of the company’s website, while researching additional web content.
Interested candidates should apply with their resume at www.hellowestmichigan.com/apply by November 8, 2015. Submitting a short writing sample is encouraged but not required.
SMG – Van Andel Arena is also looking to hire a Marketing Intern. This individual will assist in day-to-day operations of the Marketing Department. Some responsibilities will include giving tours of the Van Andel Arena as well as updating the social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, blog, etc.).
Interested students should email their resume and cover letter to Hilarie Szarowicz, Marketing Manager, at firstname.lastname@example.org by October 30, 2015. No phone calls.
